BOMA 1998 Landmark Renovation (1994)
The Civic Opera Building is a $80 million office building renovation of a Chicago 44-story landmark building to house Chicago’s world famous Lyric Opera. Fifield executed a $16 million renovation and brought the building’s occupancy from 58% to 97% in two and a half years, while spinning off the adjacent 400,000 s.f. Opera Theater and Office areas to the Lyric Opera. In 1998 BOMA awarded the building Landmark Renovation of the Year. The project was a venture with General Electric Capital. Fifield sold the building to Equity Office properties in 1997.
