K2 Apartments
365 N Halsted St., Fulton River District, Chicago
K2 is the fifth apartment tower in our “walk to work” K Station Development—a trendy area in the Fulton River District where we built over previously vacant rail yards. The eight-acre, master- planned development was completed over nine years, between 2004 and 2013, from the construction of the first tower to the delivery of K2. The master-planned development includes Left Bank, Echelon, and Alta apartment towers, and is now comprised of 2,145 apartment units, retail along Kinzie Street, a one-acre public park, a Jewel-Osco anchored retail complex (developed by others), and a half-acre dog park adjacent to K2 that we donated to the Chicago Park District.
K Station helped transform this section of the Fulton River District from maintenance rail yards into today’s bustling residential neighborhood with over 5,000 residents, including condos and townhouses nearby. The K2 tower includes a bridge that links residents to the neighboring Jewel-Osco grocery store and retail complex. We took advantage of K2’s unique site by constructing the building with a double-blade design, which created large, efficient floor plans with extra light in the hallways. K2 was one of the first multi-family developments to break ground after the subprime crisis and is a testament to our team’s tenacity and resilience.
