The Chelsea site on 2nd street, just steps from the famed Santa Monica Promenade and the Palisades Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean, allowed us to build a four-story, 53-unit boutique residential and retail development, with the building’s rear-facing units enjoying protected views of the ocean. This LEED Platinum building incorporated the finest finishes we had done to date.
A complex entitlement process allowed our team to grow familiar with the Santa Monica City Council and Planning Commission, and to become active in the Chamber of Commerce. Building trust with both city officials and the community was essential for the development. We went through multiple design iterations to create a large roof deck, with a 180-degree view of the Santa Monica Pier and spectacular evening sunsets over the ocean. Being 3 blocks from Santa Monica’s famed 3rd Street Promenade allowed us to choose three trendy restaurants for the ground floor retail space that further enhanced the building’s appeal to apartment renters.
